A HEALTHY BREAKFAST A GREAT START FOR YOUR DAY!
One of the most important parts of a healthy diet is a good breakfast. Please try to help your children start the day off on the right foot. A good breakfast is essential for students to be able to complete their challenging and exciting work each day. Cereal, eggs, pancakes or other typical breakfast foods are a great starter for the day. But if you have a picky eater, try to be flexible. Last nights leftovers are fine or any kind of sandwich, especially the old standby, peanut butter and jelly. But, please, no cookies, cakes or candies for breakfast. They provide quick energy which fades by around 9:30AM with little nutritional value.
If you find yourself short on time on these busy mornings, think of foods that can be eaten on the run: peanut butter crackers, bagels, sandwiches, and fruit. In the time it takes to walk or ride to school, most students can finish any of these items and arrive at school ready to work.
Mrs. Leonbergs suggestion for a healthy breakfast or snack.
What child can resist a popsicle for breakfast? Combine one cup of vanilla yogurt with a cup of orange juice. Freeze the mixture in individual ice-pop molds. Combine with a piece of whole-wheat toast or a bagel for a great breakfast-to-go.
